1. Offer guest checkout

Forcing people to create an account is one of the most common reasons shoppers give up. Let them check out as a guest and offer an account after the order is placed.

2. Show the full price early

Surprise shipping costs and fees at the last step are the biggest cause of abandoned carts. Show shipping costs, or your free-shipping threshold, on the product page and in the cart.

3. Turn on express payment

Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal let returning customers pay in a couple of taps, which matters most on mobile.

4. Put trust signals next to the pay button

Secure-payment badges, your returns policy and delivery times, placed right where people hesitate, answer their doubts at the moment they have them.

5. Cut the form fields

Remove anything you don't need (a second address line can be optional, a company name rarely matters) and turn on address autocomplete. Fewer fields means fewer chances to quit.

6. Add a free-shipping progress bar

“You're $12 away from free shipping” in the cart nudges people to add one more item, which lifts order value as well as conversion.

7. Send abandoned-checkout emails

Both Shopify and WooCommerce can email people who leave during checkout. A friendly reminder within a few hours, with a photo of what they left behind, recovers a real share of those sales.

Test one change at a time

Track your checkout completion rate before and after each change. Small wins stack up, and you'll know exactly which ones worked for your customers.
